If there is one thing that we have learned from life, it is that good things are often born out of darkness and despair. Hitting a crossroads can be an overwhelming experience. The confusion of the moment and fear of the unknown hampers our decision-making, leaving us completely petrified. But it is at these crossroads phases of our life that we meet our guiding light. An insight, so profound, that we effortlessly glide toward the right path.

The story of Metronet Internet is quite similar. The Indiana-based company was founded on the precipice of political turmoil, financial crisis, and the demise of dial-up connections. Metronet Review

In 2005, John Cinelli and Al Cinelli, a father son duo co-founded Metronet in Greencastle, Indiana. Metronet was the first community-wide fiber-optic internet network that was initially rolled out in 10 towns across Indiana. Being one of the first few 100 percent fiber-rich networks in the U.S. bordaband industry, Metronet saw a a large room for expansion. After several mergers, partnerships and acquisitions, Metronet was able penetrate the midwestern market. By 2020, it has established itself as the largest, independently owned fiber internet service provider in the USA and one of the most successful family run businesses in the midwest region.

Today, Metronet provides ultrafast gigabit and multigigabit fiber broadband service in 16 states of the USA. Metronet has close to 5.1 million fiber internet customers in the midwestern and north central regions. Its fully fiber-optic internet plans start at $39.95 per month and in urban centers, Metronet Internet customers can get up to 2000 Mbps of blazing fast internet speeds.

Along with its fiber internet service, Metronet also offers fiber home phone and TV streaming services which can be bundled in one discounted monthly plan.

  • Additional $9.95/mo. for Technology Service Free

Metronet Internet Plans & Pricing

Initially, Metronet was offering only up to gigabit internet speeds to its residential customers in eight states of the USA. In 2022, it merged with Vexus Fiber, a local internet carrier in Texas, and expanded its network to 8 more states with upgraded speeds. Metronet Internet could now deliver up to 2000 Mbps of upload and download speeds across its 16-state footprint.

Metronet offers four speed tiers at varying monthly prices. Its entry-level plan starts at a promo rate of $39.95 per month and can deliver speeds up to 100 Mbps. The introductory prices are valid for the first 12 months after which the prices increase by $20 per month. The Metronet Internet 500 and Metronet Internet Gig are the most sold plans on its product range. Hence, the second-year price hike for these two plans is greater than the entry-level and elite-level plans.

Additional Costs

Metronet is the best bet for budget-concious fiber internet users. For starters, it has the cheapest introductory rates for a fully fiber-optic broadband service. Secondly, all the first-time subscribers are given a red carpet treatment through deals like free expert installation and one month of free service. Metronet Internet doesn’t even charge its customers for the high-tech Eero Wi-Fi router that is included with the service.

So, in a way, Mentronet Internet subscribers can save themselves from unnecessary one-time expenses and exorbitant monthly costs. However, there are some unavoidable additional costs that Metronet Internet subscribers must bear and which have been listed in the table below.

Additional Service  Extra Price
Technology Service Fee  $9.95 per month
Installation Fee (if Applicable) $25.00 one-time charge
Non-return Equipment Fee  $150.00 one-time charge
Taxes Up to $8.00 per month
Surcharges  Up to $6.00 per month

Metronet charges the technology service fee for the maintenance of fiber internet infrastructure in your area. The service fee also includes the onground and on-call technical assistance that you will be receiving throughout the term.

Incase you are unable to grab the limited time offer for free internet installation, you will have to pay a small fee of $25 to have a professional come to your house and set it up for you. Mentronet Internet’s professional installation fee is 70 percent cheaper than the renowned fiber internet brands. AT&T Fiber charges its customer $99 for expert installation and in some areas you are charged an additional $35 for service activation.

Upon service cancellation, you will have to return your Eero mesh Wi-Fi router to Metronet. Failing to do so can result in a penalty of up to $150. The taxes and surcharges are levied by the state government and therefore the actual amount will vary from state to state. In most cases, the total cost for taxes and surcharges is not more than $15 per month.

Metronet Customer Service Review

The curse of unhappy customers spreads far and wide in the telecommunication industry. It seems like no internet service provider can break the ceiling and score above 70 percent on the customer satisfaction indices. Realistically speaking, when you are offering technical services to a large spread of consumers and battling challenges like weather disruptions, infrastuctrure limitations, government policies and economic uncertainties, it is difficult to have everything under control. There will be a few missteps and you will receive flak for that. The only way forward is to learn from the mistakes and be better prepared.

Metronet does just that. It has learned from the mistakes of industry leaders and focuses extensively on providing first class customer service. Being a family-run business, it offers the same warmth, compassion and care like a mom and pop store selling baked goods. Metronet concentrates on its loyal consumers and delivers on the promises. The Better Business Bureau rated Metronet Internet as an A+ company and Ookla speed tests reports declared Metronet Internet to be the fastest internet provider in Iowa and Kentucky. Metronet has also won the Broadband Now Badge for being the fastest mid-sized fiber internet provider in the country.

On the CosumerAffairs website, Metronet has a 4.3 out of 5 stars rating and more than 85 percent of the customer reviews are positive. Consumers have appreciated the provider for “outstanding customer service”, “good channel selection”, “superfast internet”, “pretty quick response”, and “friendly and knowledgeable technicians”. One customer went on to state “Metronet may be one of the best companies in the nation”. That just goes to show that Metronet Internet may have taken its sweet time to grow but it has definitely gotten its basics right.

Conclusion

Metronet Internet is a beloved Midwestern internet service provider that offers its fully fiber-optic plans in 16 states of the country. It is a great choice of internet carrier for those who are looking for a budget-friendly broadband option with up to 2 gig internet speeds and above average customer service. Time and again, Metronet Internet has proven that it is a future proof business that is committed to creating value in the region. Its recent expansion in the Cumberland County are only echoing that ethos.
